4 Best Pieces of Exercise Equipment for Home Gym
I've been a member of a gym for as long as I can remember. We had a YMCA growing up (that was the only gym within an hour) that I went to every day. Since then, I've joined everywhere from local small gyms to big box gyms and even popping in to local Crossfit boxes or free week trials at other facilities. But one thing I always hated was the commute to and from. I live in a pretty high-traffic town. While my latest gym membership was at a place literally within 5 miles of my house, it could take up to 30 minutes just to get there or get home sometimes! Except on Saturday mornings. Because most people aren't as crazy as I am, lol.
So, my husband and I slowly started building a home gym. We have enough equipment now to no longer need to commute to a gym and I am stoked! That took us a long time though to acquire everything. So... what are my 4 favorite and most important pieces of equipment to get started on building a home gym??
1. Quality set of Dumbbells. If you can swing it, I'd highly recommend a set that is adjustable. If not, or if you tend to only need one or two different sizes, start with that. You can do just about ANYTHING with a good set of dumbbells!
2. Resistance Bands. Resistance bands are so versatile! You can do squats, bicep curls, rows, lat pulls, ab work, etc. The options are limitless!
3. Yoga Mat. I love having a yoga mat to do all sorts of ab work, lower back exercises, stretching, and yoga moves. You can start with a decent yoga mat from Target for not too much money.
4. Adjustable workout bench. This one is a little bit on the pricier side and not as necessary as the first 3. But I find it to be an important piece for a home gym. I like the adjustable ones because you can do inclines and flat bench work. I use it for exercises like bench press, incline press, dips, skull crushers, etc. All of these can be done using your dumb bells!
If you have a home gym, I'd love to hear what your favorites or must-haves are!
